Tech-Dry | Stop rising damp in your home.

Mar 7, 2019 | Reading Time: 2 minutes

TECH-DRY SA ARE THE SALT DAMP SPECIALISTS.

One of the major causes of decay to homes in South Australia is salt damp.

If you’re worried that salt damp could be a problem at your home, there are some signs that you can look out for.

These include: Damp patches that start at the base of a wall and gradually move upwards in a vertical fashion, skirting boards or plaster that is damp or rotting, missing mortar or damage to sandstone and brickwork.

Salt Damp is the same as Rising Damp, but here in South Australia, our problem is amplified due to the high content of salt in our soil partly due to considerable land clearing in our early settlement days.   As the damp is drawn into the wall so are the salts. And it is these salts that crystallise in the wall causing damage.

Here at Tech-Dry we have treated thousands of bungalows, cottages, villas and row cottages, for more than 30 years. We are passionate about preserving South Australia’s heritage, plus renovating and restoring homes is far more environmentally friendly than demolishing and starting anew.

We are a proudly South Australian, family owned company. We offer free onsite inspections in all areas.  Our team of licensed and insured technicians will come out and provide an honest and accurate assessment.  Plus we employ a team of qualified trades so we can complete your job from start to finish.

Tech-Dry’s Australian Made, no smell, no fuss, heritage approved salt damp solution is backed by a 30-year warranty.

WHAT IS SALT DAMP?

Most people in South Australia have heard of salt damp but don’t really know what it is.  Basically it’s when water from the ground is drawn up into the wall, much like how water is drawn up by a sponge.  This water carries salt. As the water evaporates, the salts are left behind. As they build up, the cause damage.

WHY IS SALT DAMP SUCH A BIG ISSUE IN AUSTRALIA?

One of the reasons salt damp is such a big issue in South Australia is back in our settlement days, we cleared a lot of trees to build our homes.  This resulted in the water table rising and causing a build-up of salts in our soil.

IF ONE PART OF MY HOME IS AFFECTED BY SALT DAMP, DOES MY WHOLE HOUSE NEED TO BE TREATED?

At Tech-Dry our salt damp solution is a targeted solution.  We only treat the areas of your house that need to be treated.  We can also break the treatment into stages, helping you to manage the cost and inconvenience.

HOW MUCH DOES TREATING SALT DAMP COST?

It’s really difficult to determine how much it costs to fix salt damp.  We often will get 20 phone calls because there’s a place up for auction in Norwood and everyone wants to know how much it will cost to treat the house.  It’s not that simple, which is why we come to you, to discuss the process of treating the salt damp from start to finish. And the most important thing – all of our inspections are free.
