Still Aware | Birthday for Babies Remembrance Event.

Jan 21, 2021 | Reading Time: 2 minutes

On February 12 every year, a very special group of children are celebrated at a communal birthday party.

Birthday for Babies is a remembrance event for families who wish to celebrate and honour their babies who were born without breath.

The event was created by a mum, Claire Foord, who wanted to celebrate her daughter on her first birthday.

“When my daughter Alfie was stillborn on 12th February 2014, I had no idea what to do for her first birthday.  Instead of doing nothing, I decided to do what any other parent would do and throw a birthday party, thus Birthday for Babies was created.”

“A party not just for Alfie, but Birthday for Babies is for all her friends chasing butterflies in the sky.  Birthday parties should be fun, uplifting and special, and for parents of babies who can’t be earth-side with us, this should be no different.”

Birthday for Babies aims to provide a safe place for families to celebrate and honour their precious babies, whilst also raising awareness about preventable stillbirth.

It is hosted by Australia’s first Stillbirth Awareness charity, Still Aware.

This year, the event is being held in the gardens of Partridge House, Glenelg, on Friday 12 February from 4.00pm – 7.00pm.  Everyone is welcome!

Birthday For Babies is a place of happiness and celebration and includes food and drinks, children’s activities, a live butterfly release and the ever-growing community night market, Alfie’s Butterfly Market.

‘Makers’ of all kinds are encouraged to hold a stall at Alfie’s Butterfly Market.

Whether you create arts and crafts, clothes, homewares or baked goods, anyone is invited to become a stallholder with registration currently open.  It’s also ideal for any stallholders who want to have a go at their first market.

In 2021, Birthday for Babies falls on a Friday, making it the perfect evening event for the whole family to attend.

One of the most special parts of Birthday for Babies is the live butterfly release.  At twilight, babies who are no longer with their family’s earth-side are honoured by releasing butterflies.  These beautiful creatures are how birthday wishes are sent up to the babies in the sky.

Birthday for Babies is a beautiful family event filled with so much joy and happiness.  Put Friday 12 February in your calendar and enjoy a special evening filled with love and celebration at Partridge House, Glenelg.
