mainFor us getting away as a family at this time of the year is near impossible, but come December, we always feel like we really need it. We kicked off the boy’s summer holidays by checking in to the Stamford Grand Adelaide. It’s the perfect place to escape the crazy season (even just for a minute!) and recharge in preparation for the new- year.

It’s not the first time we have stayed at the iconic beachside hotel, but is our first stay since the rooms have been upgraded. It was great to see the refurbishment. The chic coastal décor is calming and the new bathrooms are stunning. I wanted to take the supersized shower home with me. The standout feature remains the large windows that frame stunning Glenelg beach. What a view!

The Stamford Grand Adelaide have newly refurbished rooms

The boys never want to stop long in the room though. The rooftop pool and spa is calling, where they spend hours and hours! You won’t find me complaining. It’s an incredibly relaxing space, with spectacular views in almost every direction. Kane popped next door to the newly decked out gym, before leaping into the pool with the boys. Only very, very wrinkled skin and starvation eventually tears the boys away from the water and downstairs for food.

The pool and it’s stunning surrounds

Speaking of food, the buffet breakfast at the Promenade Restaurant, is one of the things that gets us super excited about staying at Stamford Grand Adelaide! In the words of our 6 year old Sonny, “best breakfast ever!” The idyllic location of the restaurant combined with a beautiful selection of food is a lovely way to pass the morning. Best of all the boys chat away and laugh while they eat. Mornings are usually so hectic in our home, so the luxury of a lazy and delicious breakfast is not lost on me. It might sound simple, but it’s one of my favourite ways to spend time together.

Breakfast fun!

If you are enjoying a romantic escape, sans children, or manage a babysitter, Horizon’s Cocktail Lounge, is lovely for a sneaky drink or two. Sip a refreshing cocktail while you admire the panoramic views of Glenelg. The cocktail menu is impressive and the vibe is relaxed. If you strike a good weather day, the large windows open out to the beach. Beautiful!

A little romance

Check out is always a little sad. We’ve only got a 10km drive home to reflect on another wonderful stay, defined by quality family time, before the chaos of regular life sets back in. But we leave feeling grateful for a 24 hours well spent. Thanks again Stamford Grand Adelaide, until next time!
