Richard Jolly Racing is one of the most respected and leading players in the South Australian thoroughbred racing scene.
If you own horses and you want them well cared for and trained to become strong winners, it’s hard to look past Richard Jolly Racing as your trainers.
A family horse training business, the team is led by Richard Jolly and his daughter Chantelle who share a mutual love of the racing industry.
Individually Richard and Chantelle are industry leaders, but as a pair, they’re a powerhouse.
“Chantelle was always at the stables helping out from a young age,” Richard says. “She had a natural way with horses, which has led her to being one of the youngest female trainers to train a winner at the age of 19.
“Our first horse to race after becoming a partnership was a winner. Chantelle travelled to the U.K. and worked with top trainer Ralph Beckett. She rode track work every morning and brought back valuable skills to our stables.”
But the legacy of racing industry winners goes back even further than Richard and Chantelle.
“Dad was around horses from a young age, thanks to my grandfather who was also a horse trainer. Dad started his professional career as a jockey, riding his first winner at 14-years-old. He then went on to have a distinguished riding career winning the Group One Perth Cup at the age of 16 and riding over 800 winners,” Chantelle says. “In 2000, he started training and in 2014 trained the winner of the Group One SA Derby.”
And together the dad and daughter duo put genuine care into looking after and training the horses.
“Dad and I have the ability to ride our own horses’ track work, which is something not many trainers can do,” Chantelle says. . It provides us with a further bond and understanding of how our horses are going. We really care for them and we love what we do. “
“Our stable strives for winners and gives our owners the best possible experience,” Richard says.
Richard Jolly Racing invest in quality yearlings to train for their owners and the results speak for themselves on the track, with plenty of winners to their name.
This is due to the company’s facilities and the training regime Richard and Chantelle develop for each individual horse.
“We personalise each training routine to suit each horse individually. We are stabled at Morphettville and have great training facilities. We have multiple training tracks, a water walker and a pool,” Chantelle says.
“We communicate the progress of each horse to their owner from the paddock, to trials, to race day. We always invite our owners to come and see their horse, discuss their progress and give them a pat.”
