‘Life. Spend it well’. Never were truer words spoken. Sometimes we need to be reminded that life is precious and we should make the most of every moment – use the fine china tea cups…on a Monday!
As I have got older I’ve reduced my wardrobe to more of a ‘capsule size’ – less is more. I think minimising my wardrobe stemmed from trying to get myself and three boys out of the house each morning. I was finding the more clothes I had to choose from, the longer it would take me to select an outfit – so much time wasting. Interestingly, I also found myself constantly going back to my favourite pieces.
In an ode to spending life well I conducted a thorough audit of my wardrobe – donating anything I no longer loved. Life is too short to spend time wearing clothes you don’t feel great in! Of course a ruthless cull of my wardrobe resulted in me needing to replenish to fill some gaps – but only now I find myself being so much more considered about what I buy.
I still add a piece or two as the weather changes, but I buy pieces that will serve me beyond just one season, like Marks & Spencer’s Belted Trench Coat with Stormwear™ ($71.00) – such a classic! Selecting lovely fabrics has become more important to me and investing in good quality pieces that I can wear on high rotation is a priority. But great quality doesn’t have to be expensive – I live in Mid my Rise Super Skinny Leg Jeans ($41.00) from Marks & Spencer, they just keep getting better with every wear!
I want my wardrobe to make me feel good – to be filled with items that make me happy. For example I adore details – like the cutwork in this Pure Cotton Peasant V-Neck Blouse from Marks & Spencer. I always have a little spring in my step when I wear it. Speaking of steps, my Punch Hole Trainers with Insolia Flex ($35.00) go with just about everything in my wardrobe – from denim to flirty skirts – adore!
With my wardrobe under control, filled with well-considered pieces that make me feel stylish and comfortable, I have more time in the mornings – it’s calmer for all of us, including my boys – sometimes I even sneak a cuppa and drink it from the good china…of course!
