Prolapse is a condition where the uterus, rectum, bladder, urethra, small bowel or the vagina may start to fall out of its normal position.

Many women, up to 70%, develop some form of vaginal prolapse or suffer from incontinence during their lifetime, especially after menopause, childbirth, or a hysterectomy, and most are over 40 years old.

Without medical treatment or surgery there may be further symptoms, so it’s important to speak to a doctor.

Many women who develop the symptoms of prolapse or incontinence don’t seek medical help because they’re embarrassed or think this is a normal part of being a woman or mother or that it is a side-effect of ageing, which of course is not true.

But there are ways of treating prolapse and incontinence and the sooner you can speak to a specialist in women’s health, the better.

You might have heard the words prolapse and incontinence if you are presenting with symptoms like a vaginal lump, weak bladder with leakage, a heavy sensation in the vagina, pain or loss of sensation during sex, urinary infections, or trouble emptying your bowel or bladder.

FBW Gynaecology Plus can chat with you about your symptoms and non- surgical treatment options so give them a call today.
