Nearly a whole year has passed since our fantastic holiday to Singapore, and yet I’m still being inundated with questions about our itinerary. I’m not surprised that many of you are planning an escape to Asia’s premier family friendly destination. We had so much fun, I’d return in a heartbeat! Here are my top ten reasons to visit Singapore based on our experience:

Hassle-free flying

Recently ranked as the world’s best airline, Singapore Airlines makes flying a breeze. With daily direct flights from Adelaide, we were able to relax onboard in their comfortable and well equipped economy class. The flight is a manageable 7.5 hours – just long enough to enjoy a couple of movies from Singapore Airline’s excellent onboard entertainment system. We kept our electronic devices charged thanks to the handy USB ports located in each seat and even our fussiest eaters were happy with the catering.

Sentosa Island

Singapore’s Sentosa Island was the perfect base for our stay, allowing us to combine relaxation with family fun and adventure. The island is easily accessible and it is home to themed attractions, spa retreats, rainforest, golden-sand beaches, exquisite dining and luxurious accommodation. Family highlights included Universal Studios, S.E.A Aquarium, KidZania Singapore, MOSH!, iFly and Mega Adventure Park.

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and Spa

This gem is one of my all-time favourite resorts. Located on Siloso Beach, it is the island’s only beach-front resort. Their friendly staff made us feel so welcome and we really loved the massive pool, great dining and our beautiful rooms. The boys enjoyed The Cool Zone kid’s club so much that they didn’t want to leave! Wondering how we accommodated five people? Two interconnecting rooms! Go for the Deluxe or Panoramic Sea View Rooms if your budget allows – you can take in the dazzling views of the South China Sea from the comfort of your own balcony.

Universal Studios

We had so much fun at Universal Studios Singapore! It features 24 rides, shows and attractions in seven themed zones. It is easily conquered in one day, especially if you purchase the Express Pass. Be sure to bring your ID to the park as we had trouble collecting our pre-purchased tickets from the concierge. Any dinosaur-obsessed members of your family will particularly love Universal Studio’s The Lost World zone, with rides and experiences based upon the Jurassic Park and Waterworld films.

Adventure Cove Waterpark

We had another brilliant day out thanks to the epic Adventure Cove Waterpark. It is home to thrilling waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river, a snorkelling reef with over 20,000 tropical fish and dolphin experiences. We visited the park mid-week so it was super quiet.

Mega Adventure Park

We took to the skies at Mega Adventure Park on the Mega Zip – a zip line that is 75m high, 450m long and gets to exhilarating speeds of 60km/hour! We raced one another from the jungle canopy of Imbiah Hill to the white sands of Siloso Beach, it was a blast! Mega Adventure Park is also home to climbing obstacles, free-fall experiences, abseiling and bungee assisted trampolines.

Great weather

We travelled to Singapore in November, but you can enjoy great weather year-round. The stunning tropical showers clear, leaving behind steamy weather that is ideal for hitting the pool. I can sometimes feel drained by humidity but I didn’t experience any adverse effects in Singapore.

Great food

After travelling to Hawaii in 2016, Singapore was refreshing on the food front. We enjoyed lots of fresh, healthy meals, plus some yummy treats thrown in for good measure. You can’t go past a great ice cream or two in that weather! Singapore is home to some of the world’s best dining – from vibrant street food to Michelin star restaurants, there is something for every taste and budget. Be sure to try Singapore’s most famous dishes – Hainanese Chicken Rice and Chilli Crab. Yum!

Orchard Road

Known as Asia’s most famous shopping street, this 2.2km stretch of fashion favourites, designer threads, restaurants and galleries is a shopper’s paradise. We loved the hustle and bustle. To get there, we jumped into a taxi – they are plentiful and really cheap.

Legoland Malaysia

We headed across the border to Legoland Malaysia with our Lego-mad boys. The park is home to over 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions, plus its own waterpark. We travelled there mid-week as it is faster to get through Customs on the Singapore / Malaysia border. Legoland has plenty to see and do, but it is worth noting that there is nothing else around – one night is definitely enough. We stayed in a themed-room at Legoland Malaysia; an experience that the boys loved. The park is great fun; whilst is is not really geared to thrill seekers, it does make for a memorable family day out.

Singapore is teeming with fantastic things to see and do. We chose to spend some time relaxing by the pool, so we saved some sights for next time. Our list for the next trip includes Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Zoo and a sunset sailing cruise!

Club Med Bintan Island

Located just a short ferry ride from Singapore, Bintan is a tropical island getaway that boasts pristine, white sand beaches, quaint seaside villages and stunning resorts. Phil Hoffmann Travel has teamed up with Club Med Bintan to offer you a truly relaxing and great value holiday. Enjoy Club Med Bintan Island’s natural beauty; relax and rejuvenate with the resort’s zen zone, enjoy crossfit and yoga, followed by a massage and cocktails.
