Who would’ve thought a last minute dash to my local Australia Post to grab some Christmas card stamps and collect a parcel, would’ve resulted in me ticking off gifts on my Christmas list. How convenient! My boy’s despair at having to ‘go to the shop’ quickly turned to hysteria, when they spotted the cool toys, softies and books. A gentle reminder issued by me to them, that we were shopping for others, because Santa has them covered, didn’t go down that well!
It was great to see a selection of gifts I haven’t seen anywhere else. The range of Looney Tunes Plush toys are adorable and a sentimental favourite of mine. So well-priced at $24.99, and beautifully boxed, it’s hard to select between, Sylvester, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird and the Tasmanian Devil. We left with two!
My boys were instantly drawn to the Star Wars drink bottle (very on trend!) and construction sets. But there is something for everyone. The book sets are lovely and excellent value, including the ever popular series, Hairy Maclary and crowd favourite Spot. Suitcases on wheels and beach chairs, designed for pre-schoolers are super cute and practical. Tick, tick!
Older kids are also covered, as are kids at heart. A floral drink flask, perfect for hot and cold liquids, caught my eye for mum. A remote controlled helicopter is “so cool!!” according to the Cornes’ kid’s jury and there are loads of other nifty gadgets and useful finds, for just about anyone on your “still to buy for” list.
Of course if you can’t decide, you can never go wrong with a gift card and Australia Post had a stand full of them for almost every major retailer in the country, as well as iTunes cards. I picked up a few boxes of Darrell Lea chocolates, to be stashed away in my ‘presents for neighbours and other unexpected people who buy me a gift’ cupboard. Yes it’s true, this cupboard does exist and it will get a workout on Christmas Eve, when a procession of generous types, pop over, baring unrequited gifts. Not this year, Australia Post, has ‘stamped’ out those awkward moments.
