Meet Alex Price.  Bowler, teacher, dog lover.  What a champ!

Teacher, dog lover and sports fanatic Alex Price is an integral part of the Adelaide Strikers’ bowling attack and a lot of fun!

She Shopped caught up with Alex to find out what a day in the life of a cricketer looks like and the 2015-16 Karen Rolton Medallist didn’t disappoint.

“In my kit, you will find: uniform that has never been washed and food that is a bit gross,” she says.

“Game days always start with a bowl of Weet-Bix.  I really love home games because I am a terrible flyer.”

When it comes to pre-game superstitions, Alex only has one and that is to make sure her zinc is perfect, so she spends a lot of time in the mirror before the match.

But superstitions aside, the off-spinner loves the game and being part of the expansion of the women’s game.

“It’s really cool to see the growth of women’s cricket because now young girls have a pathway and they can see where the game can take them,” Alex says.

Away from cricket, Alex is a teacher who works with Indigenous students between years 8 and 10.

“What I love most about my job is that I get to meet so many cool people, I get to build relationships with the students and I get to help them become the best version of themselves.  Do my students love that I’m a cricketer?  Not so much, but they do bribe me a lot to go outside and play sport,” she laughs.

“I’ve always loved sport and I kind of fell into cricket, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher.  Obviously I have to teach things like literacy and numeracy, but what I’m most passionate about is teaching my students how to be good people.”

With a community spirit and a dedication to giving back to the community, Alex reckons People’s Choice Credit Union is an ideal sponsor for the game because of their shared values.

“People’s Choice is a perfect fit as a sponsor for the Strikers.  Being a credit union, they keep their members at the front of mind.  Obviously our fans are so important to us as well, so having a sponsor that shares our community focus is really good to see,” she says.

People’s Choice is a major sponsor of both the BBL and WBBL Strikers and is Australia’s second largest credit union, serving one in five South Australians and employing more than 1100 people nationally.

Alex cites her inspiration in life and sport as her sisters and her mum, and she loves that she gets to play cricket with her best mates.

“My favourite memory is walking out in my first ever game against New South Wales alongside about half of the Strikers team.  I’ve grown up with them and played a lot of cricket with them,” she says.

“The best part about playing for the Strikers is that I get to play with all my mates and have a laugh with them.  Also, we wear the best blue in the league.”
