Adelaide Strikers | Women’s Big Bash League.

IT’S TIME FOR THE LADIES TO SHINE IN AN EXCITING MILESTONE FOR WOMEN’S SPORT.

After four seasons of the competition being played alongside the KFC BBL, rebel WBBL|05 will give rise to a new standalone era of the Women’s Big Bash League, starting in October.

The Adelaide Strikers will open their campaign with a weekend of games in Adelaide against Melbourne Renegades at Karen Rolton Oval, on 19 and 20 October. Get your family together and support your superstar Strikers. Entry into all South Australian games is FREE, and includes on and off the field action and entertainment!

To celebrate the women playing a standalone season, She Shopped’s own Lucy Cornes trained with some of the biggest names in the game, including Alex Price, Bridget Patterson, Ellie Falconer, and Amanda-Jade Wellington.

“To say I am nervous would be an understatement; I am the most uncoordinated person I know, and these athletes are seriously fit and talented,” says Cornes, a cricket novice.

The Adelaide Strikers might be fierce athletes, but they did show some leniency towards Lucy, modifying the session to accommodate her skills or lack thereof!

“I was most nervous about facing the bowlers in the nets, but it was the aerobic work and catching that really challenged me. My hands were bruised, and I couldn’t even take a catch!” Lucy says.

For Lucy, the physicality of the session only proved what she already knew; the Adelaide Strikers are home to some of Australia’s leading female athletes.

Now, thanks to the standalone season, the players will get increased recognition from the public and the media. These talented female athletes are gaining the recognition they truly deserve.

“The players deserve increased visibility in the Australian sporting landscape, and I think the standalone season will help. But as fans, we need to get to the games and cheer on the girls. Showing support means turning up, and there’s no better venue than Karen Rolton Oval, where you can get up close to the players,” says Lucy.

Be a part of history, get behind the first standalone season of the Women’s Big Bash League, and cheer on the Adelaide Strikers in rebel WBBL|05.
