ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL.

The world’s biggest and best cabaret festival is back.  Adelaide Cabaret Festivals’ eclectic program is teeming with some of the best local, national and international artists, showcasing contemporary and classic cabaret performances.

Commencing on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend each June, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival makes for an unforgettable night out with your friends.  Enjoy laughs, music, dance, drama, burlesque and more.

This year, the Cabaret has welcomed two new venues to the fold: Adelaide’s beloved Thebarton Theatre and The Famous Spiegeltent.

Thebarton Theatre is a large, accessible venue located only ten minutes from the city.  Head there for the Festival’s opening night to see The House is Live; a one night only spectacular featuring Meow Meow and other festival favourites.

At Elder Park you will discover the most beautiful of the last remaining Belgian spiegeltents.  New to Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Famous Spiegeltent is the place to go for late night, magical fun.  The venue has a bar and it is accessible. It will play host to Haus of Hans, a glamorous variety show filled with disco, dance and drama.  After the show, Hans will jump behind the DJ decks to get you grooving until the wee small hours.  Julia Zemiro’s Bronya’s Variety Hour, featuring festival guests,  will give you your Eurobeat fix with spontaneity and hilarity.  For a late night vaudevillian wonderland that celebrates all things ‘gin’, be sure to see Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood’s Hot Gin Punch.

To further help you plan a seriously great evening out, here is a selection of our favourite shows:

Ute Lemper: Rendezvous with Marlene

Global star and Olivier Award winner, Ute Lemper re-lives her extraordinary conversation with Marlene Dietrich in 1998.  At the time, amongst the lights of Paris, Ute’s career was just beginning. Marlene looked back on a long, fulfilled life of movies, music, love stories and stardom.

In this stunning show, Ute tells us Marlene’s story by performing her fabulous songs from throughout her life; from the Berlin cabaret years to her collaborations with Burt Bacharach.

Don’t miss out on Ute Lemper’s stellar performance.  One night only – Saturday, 8th June at 7.30pm.

Dolly Diamond: Parton Me

Queen of Cabaret, Dolly Diamond, has performed the songs of many artists over the years, but no individual has resonated quite so much as the legend that is Dolly Parton.

Parton Me celebrates Dolly’s extraordinary career that spans more than 50 years, with songs that each tell their own story.  Supported by a brilliant live band and Adelaide’s own vocal powerhouse, the Gospo Collective, Dolly Diamond’s witty and dazzling tribute to Dolly Parton will have you tapping your toes and smiling with delight.

Random Musical

A lively and funny experience for the whole family, the acclaimed musical improv show, Random Musical, is bought to you by the Spontaneous Broadway team.

This world-class group of improvisers use random words supplied by you and your fellow audience members to make a brand new musical on the spot!  Bring your friends, young and old, and help the show to come alive with sound effects and suggestions, creating a unique show all of your own.

Taxithi: An Australian Odyssey

This spellbinding and moving performance tells the untold stories of women who migrated from Greece to Australia in the 50s and 60s.  Filled with poignant memories and passionate music of their homeland, these true stories resonate with the strength of the women who made new lives, creating an indelible impression on a faraway country.

Suburban Gothic

Are you ready for hideously hilarious tales of suburban Australia?  Enjoy a pitch-black, bone-shudderingly funny creep-show, with all original songs and thrilling tales of neighbourhood horror.  Mixing satire and dark, dark comedy, Suburban Gothic asks all the hard questions about these unsettling times. Suburban Gothic is directed by none other than the totally excellent Tripod frontman Steven Gates!

Bobby Fox:  The Irish Boy

A consummate performer, Bobby Fox combines traditional and modern Irish music with dance and storytelling to create a charming, humorous, heart-warming show featuring the classics that you know and love.

Bobby is a powerhouse performer.  A four-time world champion Irish dancer and traditional musician, he has toured the world in the global phenomenon Riverdance and played the lead role of Frankie Vallie in the smash hit Jersey Boys.

Trevor Jones: Piano Man

The talented and delightful Trevor is back at the Quartet Bar, Adelaide Festival Centre, again this year to belt out your favourite songs, from standards to rock ‘n’ roll!
