A DREAM DESTINATION WEDDING

May 27, 2015 | Reading Time: 5 minutes

When Paige married the love of her life Jake in Port Lincoln she could not have asked for a more magical day. Port Lincoln is located on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, a 6.5 hour drive or a 45 minute flight from Adelaide; it is also home to the ultimate destination wedding venue, the Port Lincoln Hotel.

For Paige selecting the venue for her dream day was easy. The Port Lincoln Hotel offered her everything and more. From the stunning beach front location to the convenience of having a beautiful room to call home for the weekend, right down to having a choice of two bars for guest to enjoy a pre-reception drink.

But it wasn’t just the location and property’s facilities that helped to make Paige and Jake’s day perfect, it was the personalised help that came with it! Each couple that gets married at the Port Lincoln Hotel is provided a dedicated wedding coordinator.

For Paige, this was priceless, “Our wedding coordinator Karena gave me the feeling we had ticked everything off the list. As the first of all my friends to get married, she also became an incredible, practical support. When my wedding day arrived I was quite naïve to think I wouldn’t have anything to do! I am so appreciative I had Karena. She took care of absolutely everything, right down to making sure I always had a drink in my hand!”

The wedding coordinator is also available to help manage every aspect of your wedding, including airport transfers and accommodation for your guests.

Paige also found her wedding coordinator Karina very helpful when it came to deciding on the configuration of the reception room. The space is flexible and caters for big and small weddings. Paige and Jake’s wedding was large, so they had some decisions to make! They decided not to open the ballroom and seat their guests until just before the bridal party arrived, because they wanted a more social wedding without totally eliminating the sit-down dinner.

On arrival their guests were spoilt with beautiful canapés and were able to really mingle. Just before Paige and Jake made their grand entrance the ballroom doors were opened to reveal a spectacular, formal affair. This gave Paige the opportunity to see her guest’s wonderful reaction to every meticulous detail she had put into her reception.

Reflecting back now this still makes Paige emotional, “It was really lovely watching everyone discovering all the small details. Guests described the feeling of being on a treasure hunt.  They loved exploring the whole venue; starting at the bar, through to the foyer, past the pool, before reaching the crescendo, that was the ballroom, made even more spectacular by the backdrop of the deck and balcony which overlooks the beautiful fig trees and the ocean!”

For Paige and Jake it was this alfresco space that provide a sanctuary on their wedding day. More than once they retreated to the balcony for a quiet moment between husband and wife. This gave them the opportunity to reflect on the magic of their day and also to peer through the floor to ceiling windows and observe the scene of pure love and happiness taking place in the ballroom.

Paige feels grateful that the magic of her wedding was extended beyond just one day, in fact it felt more like a festival, with celebrations spilling over a long weekend. Many of their guests travelled from Adelaide for the wedding and took the opportunity to be guests and tourists, taking in the sights of one of South Australia’s most breathtaking coastal towns. Most guests opted to stay at the Port Lincoln Hotel, providing many impromptu opportunities for gatherings at breakfast or at the bar of an evening.

Of course a spectacular wedding does not come together without the help of florists, makeup artists, musicians and more! Paige sourced almost all the help she needed to create her dream day locally in Port Lincoln. From the cake maker, to furniture hire, to the photographer, Paige was able to book exceptional talent from the region*.

Paige has one piece of advice for brides considering a destination wedding at the Port Lincoln Hotel, “Get out of your comfort zone and do it! You will create something magical”. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Much love for happily ever after Paige and Jake.
